RE: Another "lubing the chassis" question

When I worked in a lube shop MANY YEARS AGO, we were taught that you do NOT wipe off excess grease because it acts as a moisture barrier to the inside. Have they changed that old wisdom? Lots of things change in that length of time.

RE: Best Route - Petit Jean State Park - Arkansas

What is YOUR criteria for the term "best"? Any route will work just fine but some are a bit more scenic than others but even THAT is a matter of personal choice.

RE: What or who do you blame for the financial crisis?

Liberal pressure to make loans to folks who couldn't afford them. Conservative drive to remove all regulations on the financial community. Greed of companies CEOs and others on Wall Street to hype the value of stocks they were promoting. Greed by the general population who don't know "if it sounds too good it probably is". There's plenty to go around. I'm actually AMAZED that the moderators see this as an RV item but I'm always willing to play :)

RE: no back bumper

It would not be a good idea to use the bumper to mount a hitch under ANY circumstances. They're just not that strong.

RE: Tire pressure?

Your 10 ply tires will only carry their "maximum load" when inflated to their maximum pressure. As long as your truck, camper and all other gear aboard does not reach that maximum, maximum pressure is not ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. Many tire manufacturers have a chart showing how much weight your tires will carry while inflated at different pressure. The numbers on your DOOR usually show the pressure on the OEM tire to carry the trucks normal weight, or in some cases the trucks GVWR NOT necessarily your loaded weight.

RE: Trojan Better ??

There are two or three major battery manufacturers making the vast majority of all batteries found on the market today. Each of them makes a "premium" battery and many lesser batteries. The difference is MUCH more pronounced when comparing a premium batter of a particular type with a lower end battery, even if it's labeled for the same purpose. All batteries are NOT created equal. My T-105s weigh 25% more (each) than the Everstart deep cycle 12 volt batteries they replaced.

RE: Question/Difference of:HPTorqueRear Axle Ratio

Rear end gearing has NO effect on HP. Torque can be multiplied by gearing.

RE: Snow load

My own opinion is there is a higher risk of damage to the roof from removing snow than from it over loading your roof. Might be a good time to take a lesson from local RV Dealers and find out how often THEY remove snow from their stock.

RE: Where to go thats warm with young kids

I would think that as long as you avoid the "adult" RV Parks most places would be warm to your kids. Certainly in most any CAMPGROUND you will find they actually CATER to them. They don't seem exactly right WITHOUT kids around. Good luck / Skip

RE: Easy Lube Wheels

Good advice from Kodiak5er. I would add as a direct answer, that there should be no reason to lube the bearings more than once a year maximum (if you tow a lot) or every other year if you don't. MOST folks who have Easy Lube or other grease gun bearing feeds VASTLY over lubricate them and with some brands this just dumps grease inside the brake drum where it is NOT your friend.

RE: winterization on 2009 35 RLTS help

Most RVs have only a single set of low point drains. Hard to have two lowest points in the system.

RE: Find Draft

From the "advanced post" window there is a link to "find drafts". I believe it's the one on the left hand side of the screen. Right NEXT to the "save as draft" button you used to save it.

So....I guess if money ever gets tight we should just go on vacation in order to save money? :)

RE: Winterizing problems

I figure it can't be much different than my pop-up. I drained the hot water heater and put on the by-pass there. I assume you mean you turned the valve or valves (depending on the type of hot water bypass installed). But when I went to put the antifreeze into the holding tank with a funnel, it refused to pour in. Now I recall him never really using the holding tank since there is a water connection where it stands. So I am thinking it might be some sort blockage from a check valve or something. Usually there is only a check valve in the PRESSURE water fill not the gravity fill. Make sure you'd not trying to put water into it using the connection where the hose connects. That wouldn't reach the storage tank I did find the holding tank hidden under the couch. I see where I can pour the antifreeze in if I take apart a fitting or two. I'm assuming you've found the storage tank as the HOLDING tanks are for waste water and are usually located below the floor of the trailer. However, I was wondering if I attach a cut off hose to the fresh water hook-up and climb up a ladder and use gravity to feed the system as I pour it into a funnel through the hose while I have the sink, shower, and toilet running, it would flush out the lines. See the other answer about NOT trying to pour water through the pressure water connection. The holding tank already has a 1/2" of antifreeze in it from last year. No water in it. If there is no water in any tank then it can't freeze so there should be no need to put antifreeze into it. Any other suggestions or tips? Will the gravity of me on the ladder filling the hose be enough to pump out the system of water? There should be a drain valve either attached to the storage tank under the sofa or under the trailer at about that point. It may be either a valve you open or a cap you remove to drain the tank. Or is there a better system? For about a buck you can purchase an attachment that screws into the connection where the hose connects and you can use a compressor set to about 30 PSI to blow air through the water lines. Make sure you open a faucet, one at a time until only air comes out. don't forget to open the "low point drains" after all of the faucets have been blown dry. There MAY already be a fresh water tank by-pass valve installed, usually close to the water pump. This will allow you to use the water pump itself to pump directly from the bottle to fill water lines with antifreeze. You will need to either have a charged battery or be plugged into electrical outlet AND turn on the rocker switch (usually located near the kitchen sink) to get the pump to turn on. After it's turned on it will cycle off and on by opening a faucet. One final question: His storage tank has approx 5 threaded studs with thin guage wire on it sticking out the side of the tank. Any clue as to what this is? A sensor of sorts? Level sensors Okay one other final question, does the storage tank water pump require any special switch to turn it on or will it come on by itself if I fill the storage tank manually and open a faucett? Again, rocker switch, usually with a red light in it, located near the sink. When you turn it on with power to the trailer from some source, you should hear the pump running until it pressurizes the lines and shuts off. After that it operates by opening a faucet to reduce the pressure. With nothing in the storage tank or the bypass line being in a bottle of antifreeze, there will be nothing to pump though so it probably would NEVER shut off. Put the by-pass hose in the bottle THEN turn on the switch (or better yet, have someone else do it and also have them open faucets until antifreeze comes out). Thanks for the help.

RE: Can't get heater going on a 2007 Rockwood

Since you said it's in a Rockwood I would ASSUME it's a Suburban Furnace. You can check for gas supply operation by lighting a burner on your range. If THAT works you don't have a gas supply problem. Again, I ASSUME you have DSI ignition on your furnace. Can you hear it trying to light?

RE: Jayco Superlite winter camping

Electrically heated holding tanks with an enclosed and insulated underbelly will usually protect down to about -10 degrees if both the 12 volt AND 120 volt heaters are in use.

RE: Warranty Issues

If you actually feel like you've bought a lemon it might be a good time to look into an "extended warranty". These are actually insurance policies sold by third party vendors and in the vast majority of times the insurance company wins (or they couldn't stay in business) but for someone with an extreme amount of trouble they CAN save some money. I generally advise against their purchase, at LEAST until you have some indication that you may be one of the "lucky ones" who purchased a lemon.

Local "Tractor Supply" store usually have a wide variety of plastic tanks in all sizes.
